چکیده

distribution and stability of purple nutsedge (cyperus rotundus) population within four fields under corn-fallow rotation were analyzed over two growing seasons in 2005 and 2006 at the agricultural research station of ferdowsi university, mashhad, iran. in 2005, n-fertilizer (urea) was applied at two different application methods (whole and split application). as a result of applying or not applying herbicide (a mixture of 2,4-d and mcpa) on the fields under the same n-fertilizer management, four treatments  including n(whole)-herb, n(whole)- no herb, n(split)-herb and n(split)- no herb were assigned to four fields. in 2006, the field was kept under fallow. in both years, samplings were conducted at the same points (intersections of 2.5 m-2 grids) and dates (three times). geostatistical techniques were used to examine the data. purple nutsedge density was higher in corn fields than the fallow condition, with average densities of 51.73 and 19.61 plants m-2, respectively. in correspondence to: e. mohammadvand; e-mail: [email protected] both years, the mean density of purple nutsedge was higher in fields with whole application of n-fertilizer compared with split application. spherical and exponentialmodels indicated strong or moderate spatial autocorrelation. spatial distributions were found to be heterogeneous, with high-density patches and areas at lower density. the distribution pattern of purple nutsedge densities indicated that patch-level ‘spatial aggregation’ existed. despite fluctuation in margins, spatial stability was observed for purple nutsedge patches. this suggests that purple nutsedge would be a good candidate for site-specific application; however more practical experiments are needed to confirm this issue.

Partitioning of Nitrogen over Five Growing Seasons in Tallgrass Prairie

Annual spring burning of tallgrass prairie increases plant biomass production despite losses of N and lower net N mineralization. To better understand how burning influences the cycling of N in prairie, '5N was injected to soil as NH4+, and the partitioning between plant and soil N pools was followed over five growing seasons in annually burned and unburned prairie. Applied '5N was rapidly immo...

Spatial variability of forest growing stock using geostatistics in the Caspian region of Iran

Estimating the amount of variation due to spatial dependence at different scales provides a basis for designing effective experiments. Accurate knowledge of spatial structures is needed to inform silvicultural guidelines and management decisions for long term sustainability of forests. Furthermore, geostatistics is a useful tool to describe and draw map the spatial variability and estimation o...

Differential expression of Lead accumulation during two growing seasons by desert shrub Acacia victoriae L.

In desert reclamation strainer plants can be used for improvement and decrease pollution of soil and water. This technology can be used to remove both inorganic and organic contaminants in soil. In this study, one year old Acacia victoriae seedlings were exposed to Pb (NO3)2 in 5 different concentrations; 0, 50, 250, 500 and 1000 mg Pb L-1 for 45 days in two growing seasons. Subsequently, the h...

Stability of transgenes in trees: expression of two reporter genes in poplar over three field seasons.

High stability of transgene expression is essential for functional genomics studies using transformation approaches and for application of genetic engineering to commercial forestry. We quantified expression of two reporter genes, green fluorescent protein (GFP) and the herbicide bialaphos resistance gene (BAR), in 2256 transgenic poplar trees derived from 404 primary events, and in 106 in vitr...

Degree-Distribution Stability of Growing Networks

In this paper, we abstract a kind of stochastic processes from evolving processes of growing networks, this process is called growing network Markov chains. Thus the existence and the formulas of degree distribution are transformed to the corresponding problems of growing network Markov chains. First we investigate the growing network Markov chains, and obtain the condition in which the steady ...

Morphological and physiological responses of lowland purple nutsedge (Cyperus rotundus L.) to flooding

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Purple nutsedge (Cyperus rotundus L.) is a major weed of upland crops and vegetables. Recently, a flood-tolerant ecotype evolved as a serious weed in lowland rice. This study attempted to establish the putative growth and physiological features that led to this shift in adaptation. METHODOLOGY Tubers of upland C. rotundus (ULCR) and lowland C. rotundus (LLCR) ecotypes were...
